Hugh de Cressingham Hugh de Cressingham was Treasurer of Scotland during the English administration of 1296-97 and was killed at the Battle of Stirling Bridge (which he had done more than anyone else to lose). The intervening seven centuries have turned him into a unidimensional demon, a cartoon villain.
He deserves much of that reputation but perhaps not all of it. This paper (19 pages, 9,800 words approx) tries to round out his character by looking at what is known of his life before he picked up the poisoned chalice. Hugh de Cressingham rev 2.pdf Adobe Acrobat document [948.6 KB]
